Larrakia Nation is your organisation and are we are committed to advocating on your behalf. We also are committed to creating and delivering projects and programs designed to benefit Larrakia people and look after Larrakia culture and country. In addition to our services offered for all Aboriginal people, we have some additional benefits that are just for our Larrakia members.
Proof of Aboriginality
To apply for a Proof of Aboriginality please provide the following to email@example.com or in person to one of our offices:
All Proofs of Aboriginality must be signed off by a current board member of Larrakia Nation. Only members are eligible for Proofs of Aboriginality. If you are not a member, you can obtain one through the NT Stolen Generations Aboriginal Corporation.
Larrakia Nation does not receive funding for advocacy and is limited in its ability to advocate on behalf of individual people or families. We can make one email or phone inquiry on your behalf to a business or government agency if there is an issue you are seeking addressed. If you require further assistance, you should consider becoming a client for one of our programs.
We also recommend you contact the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency.
For more substantial advocacy on your or your family’s behalf you should write to the board. You can contact the board through our administration
Larrakia Nation is strongly committed to Aboriginal employment. Larrakia people make up a large proportion of our staff, however, they do not receive preferential recruitment and performance management over and above that of other Aboriginal staff. We welcome job applications from the Larrakia community. More information about how to work with us is here.
However, we are not an employment agency and don’t have the resources to place you in jobs with external organisations and businesses. If this is what you are looking for, a list of recommended agencies is here.
Assistance with Funerals
Larrakia Nation provides in-kind (non-cash) support for the funerals of Larrakia people. This usually takes the form of:
- Buses to assist people getting to and from the event
- Public notices regarding the funeral or passing away of a loved one
If you are looking for this kind of support, please contact our administration.
The new Larrakia Community Centre’s conference room in Coconut Grove can be booked by members for events and meetings without charge. You will need to pay a $150 deposit for the key. This is refunded when you return the key. If you would like to book the community centre, please give us a call or email letting us know when you would like to use the conference room, along with any equipment requests.
