In another demonstration of their great work, our Larrakia Land and Sea Ranger were awarded the Indigenous Natural Resource Management Award for their work in monitoring migratory shorebirds in Darwin Harbour as part of the NT National Resource Management awards.
NT National Resource Management Awards acknowledge and recognise NT champions of natural resource management through nine categories of which our rangers won the Indigenous National Resources Management Award. The award was handed over at a ceremony at the Darwin Convention Centre in Darwin on Wednesday November 18.
Since 2014 our rangers have been patrolling the waters of Darwin Harbour collecting data on threatened species of shore bird and learning their ecological requirements in the hope of improving the conservation of bird populations.
Through regular patrols the rangers have been able to protect the bird’s habitat and ensure marine traffic is complying with regulations. The patrols have also helped rangers to develop a deeper understanding of marine biodiversity in our waterways and strengthen relationships with the harbour regulators such as Parks and Wildlife and the Darwin Harbour Advisory Committee.
Congratulations to our Larrakia Land and Sea Rangers – you make us proud!
