The Larrakia Nation Assist program was launched in front of the Darwin Parliament House today by LNAC Staff and NT Treasurer Nicole Manison, with NT News, 9 News Darwin and ABC Darwin in attendance.
Larrakia Nation Assist is an addition to the Night Patrol, HEAL and Return to Country programs. It aims to provide assistance to people sleeping rough, and help them access a range of community support services. Larrakia Nation Assist will work with other key community service providers in an effort to reduce the number of interactions with the criminal justice system and increase community safety.
CEO Robert Cooper announced he is looking forward to this program being “the springboard for achieving better long-term lifestyle outcomes for our clients.”
Larrakia Nation Assist commenced its first patrol this morning from 5am-10am and assisted 27 clients, many of whom were transported to medical centres, other community services agencies and residential addresses in the Darwin area.
Larrakia Nation is looking forward to expanding this program in the future and working toward achieving a vision of Larrakia, Saltwater People Living Stronger, Living Longer.
