Larrakia Nation staff Stuart McGrath and Sandy Japangardi Walker both won awards at the ‘Hogies’ – the inaugural NT Homelessness Sector Awards launched at the 2014 NT Homelessness Summit held last week at the Darwin Convention Centre. Stuart won best new talent and Sandy won best Indigenous Worker. They recently started up a new pilot project in partnership with St. Vincent de Paul’s Northern Territory and the Darwin City Council.
They pick up long-grassers for breakfast, shower and case management, followed by a morning helping clean-up the streets in Stuart Park. So far the project has been going well and we are really proud that the guys have got the recognition they deserve.
