Spotlight on the Board:  Director Garrett Smith

P1120687

Are you a member director or independent?

Independent

What attracted you to sit on the LNAC Board?

I’ve been keen to understand Larrakia aspirations generally and through LNAC, in particular. Now I have the opportunity to do so and I’d like to meet and listen to as many members as possible.

I am also a big believer in the need for the services that LNAC provides to its members and the wider community.

What is your experience as directors of the board?

This is my first experience on a board of this size and in this space though I have advised boards as part of my job as a legal practitioner.

I am really excited and humbled at the opportunity

What are you hoping to bring to the LNAC Board?

My experience working in and around government, including assisting in complex ‘deals’ that require understanding and being guided by members’ priorities and then acting strategically and competently. My experience as a legal practitioner to ensure compliance and good governance at LNAC.

Has Larrakia Nation been a part of your life for a long time or are you newly acquainted?

I have been an observer of LNAC’s activities for over ten years and I’ve been impressed by its efforts to bring itself out of administration and take a leading role in the Darwin NGO space and as a representative body of the Larrakia.

Now, instead of just being a fan on the sidelines, I get to cheer from the inside, and I am thrilled to begin the journey!
