Undeterred by the cancellation of the Darwin Show, Larrakia Nation Aged Care had a show day of their own on July 21.
“We came up with the idea because the show was cancelled in Darwin and I am great believer in doing a variety of activities with the elders, so we decided we would organise a show day with games and prizes and show bags” said. Fiona Stoddart, Lifestyle Coach with Larrakia Nation Aged Care.
Sideshow alley had games like ten pin bowling and knock-em-down tins and guess the number of salty plums in a jar.
A highlight was the photobooth where Tali Stoddart came and took photos.
Greek ladies who are part of the aged care social group made cakes for tea and cake under the trees outside.
Aged Care staff put on a fundraising BBQ for the other Larrakia staff where they came and had a sausage and can of soft drink and a chat with the elders.
The impressive show bags were donated by Sam Muller from Big W Gateway (lollies) MK ECO by Starwin (little soaps), Angie from Damadi Skincare (soap) and Bonnie Lee & Jessie (little white unicorn show bays with homemade cookies and lollies).
The day was a success and there are already plans to make it bigger and better next year.
“We want to keep working on special events, Melbourne Cup is next! There was a lot of laughter and the feedback has been great. We all worked together to make it happen, and this is something that we will keep doing” said Fiona.
