Trent Lee’s design in TIO Stadium upgrade

Larrakia man Trent Lee’s design will be spread over thousands of grandstand seats as part of the TIO Stadium upgrade.

The grandstand seat installation will see individual chairs coloured differently to make up Trent’s design on a massive scale.

“This design is my representation of the connection we have with the land, sea and sky, and the importance of keeping culture alive through our art stories and living on country” said Trent when interviewed by AFL NT.

Rich piece of art connected to Larrakia culture

AFL Northern Territory have commissioned both the design and architecture of the new seat installation.

Head of AFL Northern Territory, Sam Gibson said “this is an exciting project that will see the grandstand transformed into a rich piece of art connected to the Larrakia people.

“This will be the second stadium in Australia with an Indigenous design, and the first predominantly AFL ground.

“We thank Trent for working with us to create a design and for Smartform for bringing it to life. We look forward to seeing the final product.”

Seat replacement starts late October

The NT Government will start seat replacement works in late October at the Southern/ Bonson end of the stadium and expects the work to be finished in mid to late January.
