On Monday September 28, our Larrakia Rangers coordinated another successful Darwin Harbour Clean-up.
Larrakia Rangers would like to thank all the volunteers involved in the clean-up. Collecting rubbish under a hot September sun is a true show of love for our harbour and we thank you for being involved.
This is the second year Larrakia Rangers have run this important event with all rangers on deck to help 200 volunteers pull just over 2 tonnes of rubbish out the harbour.
There was slightly more rubbish collected this year which filled 183 bags with plastic bottles, broken glass, foam, packaging and fishing line.
The Darwin Harbour Clean-Up brings more than 27 groups together to rid our harbour of rubbish that can injure wildlife and pollute the environment.
“Along with removing rubbish from the harbor the aim of the Darwin Harbour Clean-Up is to raise awareness of the sources and effect of rubbish ending up in the sea and to encourage everyone tobin it or take it with you,” said Gabrial Millar, Darwin Harbour Clean-up Event Coordinator.
This important annual event can’t happen without funding and the supporting groups this year were: City of Darwin, INPEX-operated Ichthys joint venture, Territory Natural Resource Management and Sealink NT.
In a show of support for our efforts Santos has offered LNAC a sponsorship donation of $5000. Thank you Santos!
